Dailies Studio turns your Zoom calls into short videos, provided you hold them in Chrome with the Zoom web app: its extension records the call, and a few minutes after you hang up, you have up to eight captioned vertical shorts to schedule. The one habit to pick up is joining your meetings in the browser.
If you are used to Zoom’s desktop app, that is what to set aside for the calls you want to see turned into shorts.
Can you use Zoom in Chrome?
Yes. Zoom offers a web app used in the browser, with nothing to download or install, according to its page on getting started with the web app. Three things to know, all from that page:
- by default, the web app may open meetings in the desktop app; an account admin can set Zoom so that they open directly in the browser;
- Zoom recommends its desktop app for the best audio and video, when possible;
- an older setting, which a few Zoom accounts still have, blocks joining meetings in the browser. Zoom plans to remove it in early 2027.
In practice, to hold a Zoom call in Chrome:
- open the meeting link in Chrome and choose to join from the browser rather than opening the app;
- or open the Zoom web app and join the meeting with its ID and passcode;
- allow your microphone and camera for Zoom.
A meeting that does not open in Chrome cannot be recorded by Dailies Studio. If you host your own meetings, that is the first setting to check in your Zoom account.
What does Dailies Studio record on Zoom?
In Chrome, during your Zoom call, the extension records:
- the call’s sound, your voice and the voices of the people you talk to;
- your microphone and webcam, the ones you chose in the extension;
- the picture of the people you talk to, as the call receives it.
It does not keep the picture of the tab, so neither Zoom’s interface nor the names on screen, and a short never shows a shared screen. The recording goes to Dailies Studio as the call goes on, without being written to your disk, and stops when you leave the meeting or close the tab.
A short shows you first: your webcam makes the picture of your answers. Its picture matters more than the call’s; we give a few simple settings in How to look good on video calls.
How do you start recording a Zoom call?
With a click. Once in the meeting, you click the Dailies Studio icon in Chrome and start the recording.
With automatic recording. If you turned it on in the extension, and gave Chrome the access to the Meet, Teams and Zoom sites it then asks for, one click on the icon is enough on Zoom, with no other step. The extension reminds you when someone joins you in the meeting. Recording without any click only exists on Google Meet.
Either way, Dailies Studio records from your browser, not with Zoom’s own recorder. Zoom therefore shows no notice of its own, and a missing banner is no agreement: tell your guests at the start of every call. We have written how to tell them.
What do you get after the call?
A few minutes after you hang up:
- up to eight shorts of 30 to 90 seconds, chosen among the passages that share real value;
- a vertical 9:16 frame on whoever is speaking;
- silences and hesitations cut, and captions in a Dailies Studio template or in your brand style;
- a post drafted for each network, which you keep, edit or delete.
In your shorts, a switch blurs your guests and disguises their voices, and people’s names said aloud are bleeped: both are on from the moment your account is created. A short that shows your guest, lets them be heard or quotes them is posted only with their agreement.
You then schedule each short, on the day and at the time you choose, and Dailies Studio publishes it. It publishes to YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn and TikTok. Vertical 9:16 is the format of all these networks; we cover its rules.
A call under five minutes is not turned into shorts, and Dailies Studio only handles calls held in English or French.
Which Zoom calls should you record?
The ones where you answer questions: discovery calls, coaching or advisory sessions, Q&A sessions with a group. A coach or a consultant holds several a week, and each holds answers that make sense on their own; we describe which ones to keep.
Leave out calls that are confidential by nature: negotiations, job interviews, health consultations, conversations under professional secrecy.
Key takeaways
- Hold your Zoom calls in Chrome, with the Zoom web app, not in the desktop app.
- Check that no setting of your account stops you from joining a meeting in the browser.
- On Zoom, one click on the Dailies Studio icon starts the recording.
- Tell your guests on every call: Zoom does not do it for you.
