Dailies

Short videos from your Microsoft Teams calls

Your Microsoft Teams meetings with clients hold your best answers, the ones no script would have written. Dailies Studio turns them into captioned vertical shorts, on one condition: that the meeting is held in Chrome, not in the Teams app. Here is how to do it, what gets recorded, and what you get after the meeting.

Dailies Studio turns your Microsoft Teams meetings into short videos, provided you hold them in Chrome: its extension records the call, and a few minutes after you hang up, you have up to eight captioned vertical shorts to schedule. The one habit to pick up is joining your meetings in the browser rather than in the Teams app.

If you work with businesses, you are probably often invited onto your clients’ Teams. Those are the meetings, where you advise and answer questions, that make the best shorts.

Do you need the Teams app?

No, and that is the very point to watch. Dailies Studio is a Chrome extension: it records what happens in Chrome, and nothing that happens in the Teams desktop app.

Microsoft says so in its help on joining a meeting: when you open a meeting link, Teams offers to continue in your browser or to join in the app, and the app is not needed to take part. Microsoft adds that you can join Teams for the web on Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

In practice:

  1. open the meeting link in Chrome, from your calendar or the invitation;
  2. choose to continue in this browser when Teams offers it, rather than opening the app;
  3. allow your microphone and camera for Teams, then join the meeting.

Teams for the web does not work in a phone’s browser, according to Microsoft’s documentation: it all happens on a computer.

What does Dailies Studio record on Teams?

In Chrome, during your Teams meeting, the extension records:

It does not keep the picture of the tab, so neither the Teams interface nor the names on screen, and a short never shows a shared screen. The recording goes to Dailies Studio as the meeting goes on, without being written to your disk, and stops when you leave the meeting or close the tab.

How do you start recording a Teams meeting?

With a click. Once in the meeting, you click the Dailies Studio icon in Chrome and start the recording.

With automatic recording. If you turned it on in the extension, and gave Chrome the access to the Meet, Teams and Zoom sites it then asks for, one click on the icon is enough on Teams, with no other step. The extension reminds you when someone joins you in the meeting. Recording without any click only exists on Google Meet.

Either way, Dailies Studio records from your browser, not with Teams’ own recorder. Teams therefore shows no notice of its own, and a missing banner is no agreement: tell your guests at the start of every meeting. We have written how to tell them.

What if the meeting is on your client’s Teams?

That is the most common case for a consultant: the meeting belongs to the client company, which sets its rules. Two reflexes:

What do you get after the meeting?

A few minutes after you hang up:

In your shorts, a switch blurs your guests and disguises their voices, and people’s names said aloud are bleeped: both are on from the moment your account is created. A short that shows your guest, lets them be heard or quotes them is posted only with their agreement.

You then schedule each short, on the day and at the time you choose, and Dailies Studio publishes it. It publishes to YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn and TikTok.

A meeting under five minutes is not turned into shorts, and Dailies Studio only handles meetings held in English or French.

Which Teams meetings should you record?

The ones where you explain, advise or answer: workshops, coaching sessions, meetings where your client asks you their questions, remote training sessions. Steering committees, schedule reviews and negotiations rarely give a passage that makes sense on its own; we describe the passages to keep.

If you also hold calls on other platforms, Dailies Studio works the same way on Zoom, in Chrome.

Questions people ask

Does Dailies Studio work with Microsoft Teams?

Yes, for Teams meetings held in Chrome, on a computer, with Teams for the web. Dailies Studio is a Chrome extension: it does not record a meeting followed in the Teams desktop app or on a phone.

How do you join a Teams meeting in Chrome rather than the app?

Open the meeting link in Chrome and, when Teams offers the choice, continue in this browser rather than opening the app. Microsoft says you can join Teams for the web on Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

Does automatic recording work on Teams?

On Teams, automatic recording comes down to one click on the Dailies Studio icon, with no other step, and the extension reminds you when someone joins you. Recording without any click is limited to Google Meet.

Are my Teams guests told the call is being recorded?

Not by Teams. Dailies Studio records from your browser, not with Teams’ own recorder, which therefore shows no notice of its own. It is up to you to tell your guests at the start of each meeting.
